The popular vote is specifically for news fodder. Watching ballots being counted on TV is like watching the superbowl…..it is purely for entertainment and diversion.

Those in the comments asking why it's controversial seem to be confusing "controversial" and "not understood". It's controversial because no other country has middlemen like this. I see the point it used to have, but that point no longer exists. The electoral college is outdated, and US citizens deserve to vote directly for the person they want to be president.
Or, better yet, move to MMP.
Or take it a step further, be even better, ranked-choice voting MMP.
It isn't controversial except to those who do not understand (or probably have never read) the constitution. Bring back civics education.
