Matt had the chance to chat with Dr. Chris Case, CTO of Oxford PV, about the future of solar energy and their breakthrough perovskite tandem cells. With decades of experience in photovoltaics, Chris shared how this cutting-edge technology is pushing solar panels to unprecedented efficiency levels, all while keeping sustainability and scalability at the forefront.

I've starved for information about Oxford PV and this is a delicious feast of information! Thank you both very much! 🙏
"Arsenic, well probably don't want to use more aresenic than we already use in the world today. Right" The same thing could said about lead. No mention in this video that all high efficiency perovskites use lead. Not only do they use lead it is used n a water soluble form. When leaded gasoline was developed they know lead what extremely poisonous but it was cheap so sold it in enmass. Then we got rid of it because it was poisoning large numbers people and we decide that was bad. PV is great let's not create a new environmental disaster by putting lead in them.
Who wants to see Dr Case´s house?
More long form interviews like this please. It did not seem that long and he probably could have gone on longer.
Nice interview, thanks for doing this.
Great episode
👍
I will never trust that this peroskivite will last even a quarter as long as the norm…
How much power will they produce on cloudy days?
I don't care about all of these claims, I care about what I can buy at which price and there the math just doesn't add up
Perovskite – because lead sounds bad
What is he saying at 15:48?
@FlibeEnergy ⚛ 🤝 @Microsoft
Many technologies only see adoptation after their patents expire. There are only a very few people with access to patents and they may have many reasons to fail at bringing it to market. Much of those research is done with public money, so there is no reason the patent should not be public domain as well. Patents are often the reason things take so long and opportunities are lost while the world needs them.
Glad you're feeling better Matt. Is that why we have another interview episode? I like the long form interview but it's the 3rd week in row, I think. I'm missing your brotherly banter, when you go over our comments. Just suggesting you break these types of interviews up.
What a great explainer Dr Case is!
I found it funny Dr. Case mentioned in the 40s scientists wanting to find a way to powering field phones during World War II in the jungle from the sun (paraphrasing10:16) we were still using BA-30 flashlight batteries in our TA-382 field phones in Nam.
I haven't put in solar yet, i have a small roof but a high demand and have to watch out for hurricanes, tornadoes, and intense temperatures and humidity. I have been hoping that the cost of solar and battery backup will eventually become affordable, but so far it has seemed out of reach.
3 weeks of the 'vid sucks…
